Great place to take little ones in strollers and walk the BWI trail. The playground is do-able with toddlers, but if yours are running, I would suggest bringing another set of hands/eyes to help. The whole play area is covered with mulch and there are barracades surrounding it (one small opening) so it is OK for new walkers. |

This park sits very near one of the BWI airport runways and it's very
exciting (and loud!) to watch the planes fly so close as they take off
or land. The park's parking lot is often close to full with observers
watching the planes. It's a great place to take the kids before or
after picking someone up at the airport. Definitely a fun and
exciting destination for kids and adults! |

| has a bunch of squash courts that are rarely in use. They are right behind a tot playground (with the nice playground carpet) and small apparatus. There is a small wall which can be a deterrant (to keep them in) or a challenge (to climb over) depending on your kids. |

There are about 6 tennis courts, a couple basketball courts and a sand pit volleyball pitch. The playground area is fenced in with 2 openings - one at either end but it was certainly small enough to keep track of the wee ones. We were pleasantly surprised that this park was so empty considering how crowded the park was overall. There was a soda vending machine there and someone said there were bathrooms as well, but we didn't use them so I can't vouch for location or cleanliness. |

Has completely fenced in tennis courts which are good during the week (when you are likely to find the courts empty) to let toddlers run around with balls/ride on toys. Playground is small and while it does have two of the small slides for little people, is more conducive to the 3+ range who are able to climb and understand heights. Adjacent to the parking lot is a ball field which I've never seen anyone but dog walkers on. Good for running around, playing ball, flying a kite. No restrooms, just port-o-potty. Swings get some shade but the play set is mostly sunny.

I'd add that the pictured did not capture that they specifically have two separate apparatuses - one for toddlers and one for 5-9 year olds. The small one has a purple dinosaur on it with solid closed steps to two side by side slides perfect for my 18 month olds (i actually made myself a log flume and went safely down with both of them together). All rubber "mulch". Port a pot |

This is a tot lot that caters to the littlest of tots as well as early elementary school-aged children. There is some bigger apparatus, but not huge and unmanageable for parents. There is a basketball court which is great for playing ball or playing with push toys. The sandbox is always a big hit, so be sure to bring some sand toys. |
Member Comment |
This a great playground with 2 different areas for your kids to play. The sandbox and the merry go round are probably the biggest hits for most kids because you don't find either at too many playgrounds these days. However, there is minimal shade so it does get very hot on sunny days. |

The apparatus is mostly for the 3+ age group, but it BAKES in the sun. It is so hot you can barely touch the equipment. It has mulch flooring and a port-a-potty. There is a pretty nice path though that follows along a small pond, several ball fields, and a basketball court (which can be very crowded late in the day). It also seems to be a popular place to practice your golf swing. |

This is a new playground. When you look at the satellite map on google (above) it shows an empty spot where the playground now resides. There is one playground for younger toddlers that has some fun climbing apparatus and another playground for older kids with a few openings that may be difficult for younger toddlers. If your toddlers are aware of the dangers, they will have fun on the very high slides at this playground. There is also an elephant statue, a pavilion with lots of picnic tables, multiple fenced in tennis courts and a baseball field. Shade is very limited on the playground, but there are a few small seats under the equipment that are in the shade. This is a very fun playground and relatively manageable for multiple children and one adult - thanks to the stone wall around the perimeter. |

There are actually 2 separate plagrounds here. One for ages 2-5 and one for ages 5-12. The 2-5 playground is great for any kid(s) who love trains. The 5-12 playground is great until you get up to the area where the curved slide is (see photo). It is VERY high and quite scary for kids under 5 in my opinion. For that reason alone, I would suggest taking some help to this park. However, if you kids are able to sense danger or fear, then it wouldn't be an issue because otherwise this is a GREAT playground with quite a few pieces of apparatus that I have never seen at other locations. |

This is Howard County’s hidden gem. It is almost always empty and is nestled in a neighborhood behind houses - far away from roads. It is a rather large park. There is tot-specific equipment and school-aged equipment. However, the school aged equipment can be negotiated fairly easily by older tots and parents. |

For us its one of the farther playgrounds but well worth it! I highly
recommend checking it out.
Other park features: fenced in tennis court, side by side half
basket ball courts. Both make nice areas for ride on toys. A beach
volleyball court so for kids a HUGE sandbox (provided no one is using
it)--be sure to bring some sand toys.
3. One bench gets shade and there are a few areas of shade where you
could sit and cool off. Be sure to bring water. There are no
bathroom facilities so potty before you go! |

This is actually behind two apartment/condo complexes, so it is hard to see from the road. It was recently redone meeting ADA requirements, with really nice playground carpet surface.
My children loved this playground. There were two apparatus - one for toddlers, one for standards. Both had rock walls and slides and tons to climb on. A football/soccer/lacrosse field is next to it for running and a CA path is next to it. There was a place for a port-a-potty but it was empty when we went. |

This is a nice tot lot that is always busy. There is smaller apparatus for small tots and some larger equipment for older tots and early elementary children. The apparatus is easily negotiated by parents for assistance. However, the park is situation between Cradlerock (a somewhat busy road) and Lake Elkhorn. So you may want to avoid this park if you have multiple wandering toddlers unless you have parent-on-child coverage.

This is a GREAT park for early walkers, toddlers, and preschool children! The playground is pretty large so if your kids are wanderers, it might be easier to bring help but it is one of the few parks that I personally go to alone with my now 2.5 year old very active boys. The playground is nestled in the back of the woods with pavilions and picnic tables. There are bathroom facilities (NOT porta-potties!) and playing fields (which are currently under construction to become a new adaptive recreation athletic field. |

This is the metropolis of playgrounds. There is a tot area and an area that is suitable for elementary school kids. The apparatus is HUGE. The park is usually crowded. It is best to avoid this park with small tots for a few reasons. Inevitably they will want to meander over to the bigger apparatus. On it, there are many of high and dangerous drops as well as plenty of standards running around. If you go to this park, ensure you have parent-on-kid coverage for all tots....and watch your head! |

There are 2 playgrounds here which might be hard to handle younger toddlers that do not have any fear of openings (with fire poles and such). However, if your multiple toddlers can either stay at the toddler-friendly playground OR understand they should avoid the more dangerous openings, this is a GREAT playground! I would highly recommend this playground for infants who aren't walking to use the swings and for toddlers over 2 years of age who listen or understand when Mommy says "No, that's dangerous". It is nice and shaded and also has basketball/tennis courts leading up to it. If your kids aren't walking yet, you should definitely plan to bring a stroller because the playground/swings are located up a walking trail/path from the parking lot(s). |
Member Comment |
Not tot-specific, but there is a tot area. The larger apparatus is not overly challenging, and it is easy for parents to get around. This is a good park from young tots through early elementary school-aged children.
All of the apparatus is somewhat confined in a natural bowl-like area. It is set back behind the basketball courts and is somewhat shaded. |

The playground is at the end of a residential street in Savage, not far from Savage Mill. Not much traffic and a playground carpet surface.
The apparatus has a toddler part and a standard part. It is probably slightly older than some other equipment but very enjoyable. We usually have it to ourselves. There are picnic tables, baseball fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and a trail head for the Patuxent Branch Trail, which ends at Lake Elkhorn. |

There is a cement barricade surrounding the playground that varies from 6 to about 24 inches in height. This could be perfect for early walkers. The playground equipment is probably best for ages 2 and up but the barricade makes the area do-able with younger toddlers. There are a few pieces of playground equipment that younger toddlers could navigate with help. There are also 2 pavillions with multiple tables, 2 fenced-in courts, and a walking path as alternatives to the playground. It is located at the end of Old Waterloo Road just past Deep Run Elementary School with LOTS of parking available. |

Completely fenced in, with gates that can be closed. Fairly large
area, with a small climber for smaller kids and a big climber for
bigger kids. Regular swings and toddler swings. Has some high
openings in both climbers for things like fireman's pole, etc.
Possibly do-able with one parent, but can be stressful if the kids
separate and you're worried about them jumping out of high openings in
climbers, or running in front of swings. Gets crowded with standards
when school is out, but often pretty empty on weekday mornings and
early afternoons. |

You could walk from the library but its across fields and a bit of a distance if carting loads of kid stuff. Excellent to combine a trip to the library for story time then pack a lunch for a picnic and playing at the park afterwards. The best time to visit is in the spring since the playground doesn't get any shade. The playground is completely fenced, has toddler and standard climbing apparatuses. I believe 4 bucket swings and 4 regular swings. Closest bathrooms are in the library. Newer playground with the soft rubber surface. Very nice but very hot in the sunny days of summer. I've often used towels, small blankets, burpie cloths or jackets in my car to put on the black rubber swings so they don't burn little bottoms!
